The heir of the Qingyang tribe from the Northern continent, Lü Gui Chen (Liu Hao Ran), is sent to the Eastern continent to be held as a hostage. There he gets to know Ji Ye (Chen Ruo Xuan), who is only half royality and doesn’t receive any love from his father, as well as Yu Ran (Lareina Song), the refuge seeking princess of the Bird tribe. The three youths support each other through all hardships that come their way, which results in a deep friendship.
Heavenly Sword and Dragon Slaying Saber is the last part of the trilogy which began with Legend of the Condor Heroes and continued in Return of the Condor Heroes. The drama takes place nearly 100 years after the events of Return of the Condor Heroes in a China ruled by the Mongolian Yuan Dynasty. Legend says that whoever obtains the Heavenly Sword and Dragon Slaying Saber can rule the world. Zhang Wu Ji (Joseph Zeng) was orphaned at a young age by schemes to discover secrets of these two weapons. Despite his preference to live a non-violent life, Wu Ji finds himself embroiled in the struggles for power and must fight to save himself and others he loves.
Legend says that once in thousands of years, the door to the Realm of Gods opens and the child of the King of Hell is born on earth. Evernight follows and the peaceful earth is thrown into turmoil. At this time, the capital of Shang is moved to Zhaoge. There, the son of Ji Chang, the king of Zhou, Ji Fa (Zhang Zhe Han) is voluntarily hold hostage instead of his older brother. While in Zhaoge, Ji Fa diligently studies and practices martial arts. Furthermore, he sympathizes with the people, whose living circumstances are getting worse and worse after Di Xin’s expiditons, and tries to help everywhere. In the end, he will turn over the country and become the first king of the Zhou dynasty.
In twilight years of the Duan Dynasty, Sixth Prince Muyun Sheng (Huang Xuan) was born. Because his mother is a spirit, he is not loved by the Emperor, and lives in seclusion and loneliness. He happens to obtain an antique painting of a spirit demon and befriends the being trapped inside (Panxi). Both promise to escape to the world’s most beautiful place. Muru Hanjiang (Shawn Dou), son of a general, was elected to be the prince’s friend since he was young. Their peaceful days end when the eight tribes rebel. The Muru army fails to protect the royal family and is then exiled, breaking the friendship formed between the two families – Muyun and Muru. A few years later, a new rebellion threatens the royal family and this time, adult Muru Hanjiang is the only one capable of protecting them. Pain and sorrows of past wounds now manifest in the new generation.
