The CCTV New Year’s Gala, also known as Spring Festival Gala or Chunwan (春晚), is not only the biggest TV event of the Chinese New Year, but even has an entry in the Guinness World Records as the most watched TV program worldwide! Around 700 million to one billion viewers tune in every year on Chinese New Year’s Eve to watch the 4-hour-long show that offers a broad variety of acts, including sketches, music and dance performances, acrobatics and martial arts.
Dagger Mastery is set in the Tang dynasty under Emperor Xuanzong’s reign. Shui Ge (Qin Jun Jie) becomes a fugitive after his whole family is exterminated. He then goes to the capital Chang’an where he becomes friends with four hoodlums. The five youths strive for a better future, but accidentally become involved with the evil imperial censor Wang who murdered Shui Ge’s family. Wang sends them to the northwestern border to collect tributes. Without knowing that they have been set up, the five friends happily embark on their journey.
Tianji Tower, the leading organisation of the pugilistic world is determined to overthrow Liu Zi Ye, the tyrannical ruler of the Liu Song dynasty. To achieve their mission, Tianji Tower replaces his sister Liu Chu Yu with their own disciple and Princess-lookalike Zhu Que (Guan Xiao Tong). Zhu Que meets the Princess’ learned companion Rong Zhi (Song Wei Long), who turns out to be a spy from Northern Wei. Liu Chu Yu and Rong Zhi’s relationship eventually breaks down over misunderstandings and differing loyalties, and the latter fakes his death in order to regain Chu Yu’s forgiveness. Somehow they accidentally lose their memories, and only meet five years later when Chu Yu is sent to marry Northern Wei’s Prince regent, who is none other than the now amnesiac Rong Zhi.

Fang Yu was one of the first to see his talents and their relationship grows over time.
